About Text-Driven Preaching Symposium

The Text-Driven Preaching Symposium over the summer of 2019 provides an opportunity for preachers, especially those preparing for the ministry, to engage with others as we study text-driven sermon preparation. The content over the summer will be limited to preparation but we anticipate there to be opportunities to give participants feedback on delivery. By registering for the event, you indicate that you are in agreement with the symposium details and expectations listed below.

Audience: For those who currently prepare sermons or who anticipate future ministry in which sermon preparation will be expected. The principles of sermon preparation will also be helpful for Bible study teachers who are welcome to register as well.

Skill Level: Beginner

Time: Most Tuesday nights June through August 2019 from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Check event dates on this registration page.

Location/Forum: Virtual. Participants will meet through Zoom, video conference software. Participants are required to have their own technical platform (PC, Mac, iOS, or Android) with both audio and microphone capabilities. A headset or earbuds are preferred. Participants whose technical environment cannot control background noise will be muted.

Study Guide: Christ-Centered Preaching: Redeeming the Expository Sermon by Bryan Chapell (3rd Edition). Participants must purchase this resource and be available to discuss during our first meeting. You can buy locally or purchase online through retailers such as Amazon. Copies of the book will not be provided by symposium leadership. For Oklahoma participants, the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma (BGCO) will reimburse a portion of your book cost if you finish the symposium. Please save your paper or electronic receipt.

Expectations: This is a "closed group" of preachers and Bible study teachers uniting together to assist one another in our understanding and growth of text-driven preaching and teaching. As such, we will hold ourselves to the following list of expectations:

  1. All participants will register.

  2. All participants profess salvation by grace and through faith alone in the literal virgin birth, life, death, burial, and bodily resurrection of Jesus. Salvation is obtained only by faith in Jesus' finished work. The Bible is God's inspired, infallible, and sufficient Word. Our doctrine is baptistic in tradition but biblical in origin.

  3. All participants will purchase the study guide described above and will stay current in reading and outside preparation.

  4. A leader will facilitate each meeting, but the class is a forum for all. All participants will connect to each class session with something to contribute from the previous week's reading and research.

  5. Given the unique nature of participation in the class, any participant missing more than three sessions will voluntarily withdraw participation but will be eligible to register for another text-driven preaching symposium in the future.

  6. Symposium leaders reserve the right to remove participants not respecting the content or purpose of the event.

Upon registration, you will be emailed a link to the video conference site. Save this link.

We are excited that you are praying about participating in our Summer 2019 Text-Driven Preaching Symposium. If you have any questions, please email info @ wilmontplace . com for more information.
